Trending Teal Paint Colors and Why They Work

Top 12 blue-green and teal paint colors designers recommend for creating moody yet vibrant bedrooms, bathrooms, and home offices.

This week we’re embracing teal for the conference/office/multipurpose meeting room at The Cottage with The Life House Women’s Shelter in our community.

We wanted a space that feels calm and moody while still feeling energetic, and teal turned out to be the perfect choice.

Over the years we’ve used many teal wall paints in our room makeovers because teal instantly sets a tone — it calms and uplifts the moment you walk in. Paint really can change the whole feel of a room.

I went deep into the world of dark blue-green paints (a bit like an Alice in Wonderland rabbit hole) as part of my process for choosing the right color, and this roundup is a curated addition to our favorite paint color archive.

Where to Use Teal Paint Colors

Teal is excellent for creating spaces that are both lively and relaxing. Its popularity has grown—Glidden even named a mid-tone blue-green shade Vining Ivy as a paint color of the year—because homeowners are moving away from neutral gray and pastel trends and toward color with more personality.

Teal sits between blue and green, offering a calming presence with a vibrant edge. That makes it ideal for bathrooms, bedrooms, and home offices where you want a focused yet soothing atmosphere. In color psychology, teal often promotes clarity and stress relief.

Because it evokes oceans, lagoons, jungles, and peacock feathers, teal can bring a natural, restorative feeling to any room. If you want color that makes a statement without overwhelming the space, consider teal on dining room walls, kitchen cabinets, front doors, or as an accent wall framed with board-and-batten molding for a relaxed but intentional look.

Romabio New Hope

We recently painted The Cottage conference room with our own teal shade called New Hope from the Bless’er House Color Collection with Romabio. It’s a mid-tone, chameleon teal that shifts between blue and green, softened with gray undertones so it reads gentle and sophisticated in different lights. Under fluorescent lighting it looks different, but once we add warmer lamps and decor it becomes cozy and inviting.

I’m excited to furnish and style this office—follow along on our Instagram Stories for the room makeover progress.

What Colors Complement Teal Paint?

Soft White or Grey

Crisp whites and soft greys create a clean, relaxed backdrop for teal. Try whites like Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace or Sherwin Williams Extra White. For greys, consider Benjamin Moore Gray Owl or Sherwin Williams Passive.

Warm White

Warm whites and creamy off-whites bring out the greener side of teal. Because teal is a chameleon color, it will appear bluer or greener depending on nearby warm or cool tones. Sherwin Williams Alabaster and Benjamin Moore Swiss Coffee are great warm neutrals to pair with teal.

Pink

Pink can modernize and brighten a teal palette. Use bold pink accents for contrast or softer pastels for a gentler look—try pink in textiles like pillows, bedding, or drapery.

Red

Muted reds—from Persian rug tones to terra cotta and exposed brick—add richness and depth beside teal. If you’re adventurous, try pinkish or purplish reds for a more eclectic vibe, introduced gradually through accents.

Yellow

Soft yellow tones found in natural textures—rattan, sisal, and bamboo—pair beautifully with teal for a spa-like atmosphere. Teal also pairs well with bolder yellows if you want a more energetic contrast.
