Cottagecore Toddler Girl Room Makeover Before and After

A nursery transforms into a cottagecore-style toddler girl room with vintage-style metal twin beds, playful patterns, and chinoiserie wallpaper

This post is sponsored by Better Homes & Gardens at Walmart.

It still feels surreal that the nursery we set up when she was a newborn is now a full-fledged toddler girl room. Time flies—one moment she was swaddled in a crib and the next she’s insisting on “big girl” beds and planning sister sleepovers.

We updated the space with two vintage-inspired metal twin headboards to create a soft cottagecore feel that complements the chinoiserie wallpaper. The result is sweet, practical, and perfectly sized for a little girl who’s ready for a big-kid bedtime routine.

Having two twin beds isn’t essential for every toddler room, but it’s been a wonderful addition for our family—especially for sleepovers with cousins and siblings. We chose this layout to balance charm and function while maximizing storage and flexibility.

Twin beds and vintage metal headboards

We selected vintage-style metal headboards with delicate floral details that echo elements from her former nursery. The headboards bring a nostalgic, cottagecore touch that pairs beautifully with the wallpaper’s floral and citrus motifs.

To increase storage and sleeping flexibility, we used metal bed frames that leave room underneath: one side accommodates storage drawers while the other holds a trundle bed. That extra trundle will be invaluable for guests and cousins during weekend sleepovers.

The trundle mattress is still en route, so I’ll share details about that setup after it arrives. For now, the arrangement offers both a cozy look and practical function—beds that feel grown-up but remain toddler-friendly.

Bedding and pattern play

Rather than sticking to all-white bedding, I introduced a cheerful yellow diamond-patterned sheet set to add geometric contrast to the florals. The pattern play—mixing small geometrics with larger floral prints—creates a lively but cohesive cottagecore palette.

Yellow fringed throw pillows pick up the lemon tones from the wallpaper, and soft chenille throw blankets at the foot of each bed add warmth and tactile comfort. To hide the trundle and storage drawers beneath the beds, we attached eyelet bed skirts to the frames using small picture-hanger nails so they stay in place but remain easy to remove for laundering.

Lighting and bedside details

Swing-arm lamps mounted near the beds provide adjustable light for bedtime stories and gentle illumination at night. Their subtle vintage styling keeps the room feeling cohesive without overpowering the delicate wallpaper and bedding.

On the dresser, a simple white vase with faux flowers adds a pretty, low-maintenance accent. A rattan diffuser sits nearby and offers a gentle way to diffuse calming scents, which can be helpful for easing bedtime routines.

This project marks the official transition from nursery to toddler room. It’s emotional to realize our little one is growing up, but it’s also exciting to create a room that reflects her personality and the family’s needs.

We still need to address the opposite side of the room: the old dresser no longer fits the layout, and I’m on the hunt for a taller piece that complements the new design while maximizing storage. Once that’s settled, the room will feel complete.
