Ten years ago, if you’d told me I’d paint a neutral room pink, I would have laughed. But here I am—completely smitten with this warmer, cozier, and yes, decidedly more feminine bathroom refresh for our girls.
This update made the space feel softer and more inviting, and it only took a few key changes to transform the whole room.

I’m amazed at how much difference a single color change can make. The room now reads as warm, playful, and cozy—exactly the vibe I wanted for a girls’ bathroom.

We originally remodeled this bathroom five years ago, and while it was a sweet and functional space, the gray-and-white scheme felt colder than the rest of our home. As the girls grew, the room started to feel too sterile for their personalities.

A little paint and a few updated fixtures gave the bathroom a completely new identity. We relied on a handful of pieces and affordable decor from The Home Depot to finish this refresh in just four days. With faucets and accessories up to 40% off during The Home Depot’s Summer Bath event, we kept the total under $1,000.
Blush Pink Paint and Color Drenching
One of my favorite tricks for making a small room feel larger is color drenching—painting the walls, trim, doors, and ceiling the same hue. The uninterrupted color visually enlarges the room because there are fewer contrasting lines to break the sightline.
For this project I chose Behr Postmodern Mauve, a subtle peachy-blush that can read pink or beige depending on light. Its slightly desaturated tone gives the room a soft, vintage quality. In damp spaces like bathrooms, I recommend a satin sheen because it holds up better to moisture than flat or eggshell finishes.

Black Vanity for Contrast
The bathroom is narrow, so a standard vanity wouldn’t fit. For the original remodel we converted a console table into a vanity—an ideal solution for tight spaces. To add drama and depth, I painted the console vanity Behr Totally Black in a satin finish and painted the exposed plumbing a coordinating gold.
This approach keeps the budget friendly and creates a chic, high-contrast focal point against the blush walls. For tips on spray-painting fixtures safely, see resources on finishing hardware and fixtures.

Gold Fixtures to Warm the Space
Replacing the original brushed-nickel fixtures with brushed brass instantly warmed the room. The golden tones catch the sunlight and feel much more cohesive with our home’s overall palette.

Gold Sink Faucets
Because the vanity is narrow, vessel sinks were the most practical option and more affordable than a built-in custom vanity. We swapped the old faucets for brushed modern brass models that complement the black vanity and blush walls.

Gold Tub and Shower Faucet
We also replaced the shower hardware with a matching brushed brass tub and shower set. The new faucets include lifetime warranty coverage and ScratchShield technology, which gives us confidence they’ll hold up to daily family use.

Gold Hooks
For a kids’ bathroom, hooks are more practical than towel bars—children find it easier to hang a towel on a hook. We installed brushed brass hooks to match the faucets and added antimicrobial waffle towels that are incredibly soft. I started with one set and already plan to buy more because they’ve held up so well.

Gold Sconce Lighting
Swapping the nickel sconces for warm-brass transitional wall sconces added a cozy glow and tied the finishes together. The warm light against the mauve walls makes the room feel inviting and refined.

Mirror Refresh with Paint
Finding mirrors in the exact dimensions we needed is challenging, but we loved the bobbin beaded detail on the originals, so we kept them and updated the frames. Using mask & peel and satin black spray paint, we refreshed the frames so they read like a bold, beaded necklace against the blush walls.

Vanity Hardware
The black vanity gained a little extra polish with slightly weathered gold cabinet knobs in a burnished brass finish. The small hardware swap helped tie the black and gold elements throughout the room together.

Gold Picture Frame Update
To stay on budget I sprayed the existing art frame with my favorite gold spray paint. The small pop of pink in the tightrope walker painting helped inspire the color story for the entire bathroom—black, pink, and gold.

Raise the Shower Curtain to Add Height
We raised the shower curtain by using an extra-long liner and 92″ curtains hung just below the crown molding on a curved double shower curtain rod. Raising the curtain line makes the ceiling feel taller and dramatically changes the perception of the room’s proportions.
