9 white and blue Christmas decor ideas for dinner tables, Christmas trees, gift wrap, and holiday accents.
Most years when I plan our Christmas decor, I let Robert pick the color scheme — he’s basically Buddy the Elf at heart. This year he didn’t hesitate: “BLUE!” So I leaned into a white-and-blue holiday palette that feels classic and fresh.

I’ve been dreaming about a traditional dining room in shades of blue ever since I set a white-and-blue table for Mother’s Day. My mom has long collected Blue Willow pieces — dinnerware, vases, teapots, even clocks — and our childhood home was full of that blue-and-white porcelain. It always felt like home, and now I appreciate it even more.
My mom kindly let me borrow some of her collection for the season, and I had so much fun putting together these white-and-blue holiday looks. Below are ideas to bring that elegant, timeless palette into your own home.
White and Blue Christmas Decor Ideas

White and Blue Christmas Dinner Table Decor
This year’s dinner table is my favorite yet — simple and beautiful. A vase of greenery and a couple of candlesticks are all it needs. Overly elaborate centerpieces can get in the way of conversation, so I prefer a setup that’s both pretty and practical.
These ideas work year-round too: swap the winter greenery for fresh flowers, remove the tree, and the room easily shifts into spring or summer. I believe home decor should be versatile and not tied to one season or trend.

1 Table Linens
A simple blue-striped runner anchors the table and can easily work for other holidays, like the Fourth of July. Light-blue napkins add a subtle touch without overwhelming the setting.

2 Vases
White-and-blue vases are classic and easy to find at antique shops and thrift stores. Fill them with evergreen stems and a few white blooms so the blue design stands out. I used faux stems that look remarkably real — a practical option if you want something that lasts all season.
Arrangement I used: pine stems, cedar stems, cream roses, and juniper picks.

3 Dinnerware
You don’t need a whole new service to introduce blue. I paired Blue Willow salad plates with plain white dinnerware to create a cohesive look. Hunting for a few secondhand accent plates is an inexpensive way to build on the color scheme without replacing everything.

4 Candles
Swap plain white tapers for blue ones to add a subtle, cozy pop of color. If you already burn candles, choosing colored tapers is a simple way to reinforce the palette.

White and Blue Christmas Tree Decor
I usually keep neutral ornaments on hand and let ribbon and a few colored pieces carry the seasonal hue. Neutral metallics and whites create a foundation so you can introduce color with ribbon, a handful of ornaments, or themed accents.

5 Christmas Tree Ribbon
Ribbon is a fast way to add color. I used navy wired velvet ribbon for depth and texture — it would look gorgeous on a flocked tree as well.

6 Ornaments
Add a set of blue ornaments as accents — simple shatterproof balls work well. You can also refresh old ornaments with spray paint to match your scheme. I found blue-and-white ginger-jar-shaped ornaments that are so charming they’ll be gifted to my mom.

7 Gift Wrap
Wrapping paper is an easy way to introduce blue. Simple blue kraft paper with a coordinating ribbon looks polished under the tree, or wrap in neutral paper and add a blue velvet bow for a refined touch.

8 Artwork
Small touches of blue in the gallery wall or picture frames reinforce the palette. I tied little blue bows onto frames to subtly echo the tree and table decor.

9 Garland Ribbon
Tie blue ribbon into garlands on stair banisters, doorways, shelves, or the mantel for cohesive contrast. Ribbon can also conceal fasteners like zip ties while adding a decorative finish.

It’s fun to see how the dining room has evolved since our first Christmas here in 2017. The room has hosted many conversations, DIY projects, and seasonal changes — and I still love it every holiday season.
