All the best things to eat, see, and do in Charlotte, North Carolina—curated for family outings, date nights, and nearby day trips from a local perspective.

I’ll be honest: I’m a little biased, but I truly believe the Charlotte area is one of the best places to raise a family. I grew up here, and it’s easy to see why people move to the region. Its central location puts beaches, mountains, and urban amenities just a short drive away, while the mix of neighborhoods offers everything from bustling city life to quiet suburbs and wide-open countryside. We get all four seasons—usually with just a light dusting of snow when we’re lucky.
Beyond geography, the warmth of Southern hospitality is a real bonus. In a single weekend you can hunt for Christmas trees in the mountains, spend a day at the beach, or explore family-friendly attractions close to the city.

Road trips are easy: the coast and charming towns like Charleston and Myrtle Beach are a few hours away, and mountain getaways are within driving distance as well.

There is so much to do, see, and eat in and around Charlotte. Based on the many messages I receive from people planning visits, here are our family’s favorite spots for families, date nights, and great local restaurants.
