The last time I shared an update about what’s been happening in our lives, many of you had questions: Why did we sell the house we had just finished? Where are we moving? Why can’t you see the inside of the new place yet? When will you be moving in?
There were a lot of cliffhangers in that post, and while I can’t answer every question yet—since we’re very much in the middle of the move—I want to be open and give you a clear, honest update. Here’s where we are right now.
First, allow me to introduce the new-to-us brick Colonial.

Isn’t it charming?
I was at the house for inspections the other day and managed to take a few quick photos of the exterior. I can’t share interior photos yet because the current owners haven’t moved out. We will do a full interior tour once we close.

So, let me answer some of the most common questions.
Why did you sell your first house?
We shared more about our reasons previously, but in short: we wanted more yard and more mature trees, an established neighborhood with character, and a location closer to both mine and Robert’s parents. This new house gives us all of that and more.
After three years in our previous home we learned a lot, and we felt ready to take on an older house with more personality. Think of it as taking off our training wheels—this house feels like the next step for our family and our projects.

Where are you moving to?
I get asked this a lot, and I understand the curiosity. For privacy and safety, we prefer not to share the exact neighborhood name or address online. We’re still in the same general area of South Carolina, in the suburbs of Charlotte, and we’re excited to remain nearby family and friends.
Yes, the property even has a pool—so that surprised us too and we’re looking forward to enjoying it once everything is official.

When will you be closing?
We are scheduled to sign the papers in mid-April, so there’s still a little waiting to do. In the meantime we’re busy wrapping up a guest bedroom makeover for my parents—which I’ll be photographing and sharing the reveal of—and preparing for a Lowe’s makeover trip that we’ll tell you more about later.
Between inspections, photography, projects, and packing, Robert and I have our hands full, but we’re excited about everything coming up.

More details about the new house
The house dates from 1960, so it has vintage character and solid bones. Fortunately, it’s been updated over the years, which means we aren’t staring down a massive renovation. The layout includes four bedrooms and two-and-a-half bathrooms, plus a dedicated playroom for Olivia and an office space for me. There’s a large garage where we can continue our furniture makeovers and home improvement projects, and the outdoor shed has sparked Robert’s imagination as a possible creative space.

The yard is delightful—mature trees, blooming gardens, and a sweet little swing—and there’s a generous covered back porch that already feels like a perfect spot for morning coffee or evening gatherings.

I have lots of ideas for this house, but my plan isn’t to erase its existing charm. Unlike the dramatic farmhouse transformation we did in our last home, here I want to accentuate and celebrate the house’s original character while making thoughtful updates where they count. There will still be changes—there always are—but they’ll feel like a natural extension of what’s already beautiful about the property.

That’s the update for now. We are incredibly grateful for all of your support—your messages, comments, and encouragement mean so much. Every day we’re reminded of how many opportunities we’ve been given, and we’re excited to see what’s next. We don’t know all the details of the future, but we’re looking forward to the adventure and will share more as soon as we can.
