A curated shopping guide featuring the highest-rated nursery gliders and rocking chairs that deliver a designer look for less than half the price.
This week in nursery makeover news: the original hardwood floors have been revealed.
They were hiding under decades of carpet and, after a little sanding and refinishing, the floors finally get their moment to shine.

Our contractor arrived this week to bring the floors back to life. Considering these planks are original to our 1960 house, they already look surprisingly beautiful once the carpet was removed.
For now, because of sanding dust and fumes, Robert, Olivia, and I have temporarily relocated to my parents’ house for a night or two while the finishing touches are completed.
(P.S. The black patches you see are remnants of the old rug pad, not mold—so nothing to worry about.)

With the floors on their way to being finished, I’ve turned my attention back to the nursery’s final details—primarily the glider.
When Olivia was born, we invested most of our budget in a high-end convertible crib and chose a basic, inexpensive glider. Looking back, that decision taught us a lot.
The fancy convertible crib turned out to be less essential than we expected: we never converted it to a toddler or full-sized bed, and Olivia didn’t sleep in it consistently during her earliest months.
Meanwhile, the inexpensive glider got the real workout. We used it constantly—feeding, soothing, and late-night rocking. After a year it was creaky and wobbly from so much use.
The takeaway: if you plan to splurge on one piece of nursery furniture, make it the glider. Choose a chair that’s exceptionally comfortable and well-built because you’ll spend a lot of time in it.
That said, you don’t have to pay more than $1,000 for a designer-style glider from high-end brands to get a comfortable, stylish option. There are many excellent choices that look polished and feel great—without the designer price tag.

To help with your nursery planning, I’ve compiled a list of 20 favorite gliders and rocking chairs that balance comfort, style, and value. Each one is budget-friendly—priced at $500 or less—and well-reviewed by parents who rely on them every day. Most of these models are available in multiple colors and fabrics to suit a variety of nursery palettes and decor styles.
These selections focus on durability, ergonomic support, and a quiet glide or rock—qualities that matter when you’re nursing, bottle-feeding, or soothing a baby to sleep. Many options include features like removable covers for easier cleaning, sturdy frames that won’t creak under constant use, and modest silhouettes that blend well with modern, farmhouse, or traditional nursery aesthetics.

When choosing, prioritize seat cushion density and arm height to ensure the chair supports your back and arms during long sit-downs. If possible, test a glider in person or check return policies so you can confirm comfort before committing.

We just ordered our chosen glider, and I’m excited to see how it looks in the nursery next to the refreshed hardwood floors. I’ll share an update with photos once everything is set up.
