This time of year I always convince myself I’ll get everything done early.
I imagine finishing our family’s Christmas shopping by Thanksgiving, baking cookies for the local firefighters and police, adopting a stack of Angel Tree kids, having the house spotless and organized before guests arrive, packing Operation Christmas Child boxes, and decorating the house so brightly Clark Griswold would be jealous.
In reality, I usually end up racing to finish at the last minute. Still, I did manage a hot cocoa bar, which feels like a small holiday victory.
For me, a long holiday to-do list calls for a lot of chocolate — preferably hot and topped with marshmallows. That’s the whole philosophy behind creating an easy, inviting hot cocoa station in the kitchen.

The weather has finally turned cool here, and I’m ready to curl up under a blanket, watch Christmas movies with my little family, and sip cocoa by the glow of twinkling lights.
