Go big or go home — that’s the idea behind this guest bedroom refresh.
We decided to go big with the artwork, and the result transformed the whole room.

If you have a large blank wall and you’re unsure what to do with it, try hanging a single oversized statement piece. It instantly anchors the room and makes a small space feel larger.
I designed this entire bedroom around one piece of art from Walmart’s Vintage Chic collection. The colors and scale set the tone, and everything else followed.
Getting that giant frame up our twisting stairway was a two-person job — Robert and I definitely worked hard to carry and position it — but the impact it made was worth every effort.

That piece reminded me of a painting my grandmother once had — a paint-by-numbers vase of flowers she worked on herself — so it felt especially meaningful to hang it in our home.

For this compact space, I used two round end tables as budget-friendly nightstands. Their white finish and the brass lamps provide a bright contrast against the deep green curtains we installed a few weeks ago.
(I’ll probably swap out that wooden picture frame later — I don’t want guests to feel like we’re watching them while they sleep.)

I added chunky knit white pillows for texture and seasonal comfort; they’re perfect for fall and winter, and I plan to keep them year-round because they suit the overall aesthetic. A lumbar pillow with trim echoes the cane headboard and ties the bedding to the furniture.

For a soft, romantic touch I chose a ruffle-skirted bedspread set — a budget-friendly find that gives the room a layered, finished look. A textured gray throw at the foot of the bed adds depth and visual interest even if it’s not as warm as I expected.

The overall style of this Walmart Vintage Chic collection blends farmhouse, traditional, and modern elements. It ticked all the boxes for a look that feels cohesive and approachable without costing a fortune.
We’re still waiting on a rug and a few finishing touches on the opposite side of the room, and once the original hardwood floors are refinished — they’re currently hidden under carpet — this space will be complete. Even now, the difference from a few weeks ago is dramatic.
Here’s what the room looked like only a few weeks ago:
