Guest Bedroom Paint Refresh: White Walls and Gray Trim
Progress calls for a little celebration. The guest bedroom still needs more attention, but the paint update has already made a huge difference.
Remember how this room started out?

Goodbye spackled beige walls and yellowing, peeling trim—there’s a new look in town. I decided to go with a crisp white for the walls paired with a soft gray trim to lift the room and give it a cleaner, more cohesive feel.

Earlier this week I shared the inspiration behind choosing white walls with gray trim, and the examples convinced me to move forward with the refresh. While I was busy with the kids, Robert jumped in and painted the walls Benjamin Moore Swiss Coffee and the trim Benjamin Moore Winter Gates.
Both of these paint colors are favorites for good reason. We already use Swiss Coffee in our living room and kitchen, so it felt right to carry that calm, warm white into this space. Winter Gates is a muted gray that looks fresh against the white without feeling too stark. The contrast creates definition around windows, doors, and baseboards while keeping the overall palette neutral and inviting—exactly what a guest bedroom needs.
This paint refresh is one of the easiest ways to give the room an immediate before-and-after moment. The difference from the original is already dramatic.

We do plan to remove the carpet and restore the original hardwood floors underneath eventually, which will be a bigger project and is something we’ll do when the budget allows. For now, the paint refresh solves the most visible issues and gives the room a refreshed foundation to build on.

Next on the to-do list: hang a full wall of drapes to visually center the window and soften the room, and bring in a gorgeous secondhand cane headboard I found that will set the tone for the bed area. These additions will help balance the off-center window and add texture and warmth to the space.
At the moment the room is still in that “in-between” stage—better than before, but not fully styled. That’s okay. Painting first allowed us to address the most pressing cosmetic issues quickly and affordably, and it’s made a big difference in how the room feels.
Styling a guest bedroom should feel intentional yet welcoming. By starting with a fresh, neutral base—Benjamin Moore Swiss Coffee on the walls and Winter Gates on the trim—we’ve created a flexible backdrop that will work well with different textiles, furniture finishes, and lighting choices.
Whether you’re planning a full makeover or a simple refresh, paint is one of the highest-impact updates. Clean white walls paired with a complementary gray trim can instantly modernize a space, define architectural details, and make a room feel brighter and more coordinated.

Stay tuned for more updates as we hang the drapes, install the headboard, and decide on textiles and lighting. For now, it’s nice to have the walls and trim looking so refreshed—one simple project that already makes the guest bedroom much more inviting.
