3 Stylish Shared Bedroom Ideas for Teenage Girls

3 teenage girl bedroom ideas with design styles to suit preppy, eclectic, boho, japandi, and cottage aesthetics.

Today, Robert and I are starting the first of two teenage girl bedroom designs we’ll complete in the coming weeks.

Last winter we refreshed a rec room for our neighbors, the Carney family. That project inspired these bedroom mood boards because Terra and TJ Carney have nine children, five of whom are teen or tween girls sharing two bedrooms. We accepted the challenge to design shared spaces that feel personal, functional, and beautiful for each girl.

I created several mood boards for the Carney girls to help them choose a direction, and I thought other parents or teens might find these ideas useful too. Below are three cohesive design concepts—each includes color direction, key pieces, and styling tips to adapt for shared rooms. If you like working with mood boards, try creating one yourself; it’s a fast way to visualize color, texture, and furniture together.

Which style would you pick?

Teenage Girl Bedroom Idea 1: Preppy Eclectic

This look blends classic preppy elements—think clean stripes, gingham, and structured furniture—with eclectic accents like unexpected artwork and layered textiles. It’s polished but playful, ideal for siblings who want coordinated spaces with room for individual expression.

  • Key furniture: triple L-shaped bunk bed to maximize floor area for three sleepers, fluted or vintage-style dresser for shared storage, and a chalkboard-style fold-down desk for homework and creativity.
  • Color + pattern: soft coral accents with navy or deep green for contrast; striped wallpaper or a bold striped accent wall; gingham and block prints for pillows and bedding.
  • Lighting & accessories: wall-mounted task lamps at each bed, a cozy reading chair for late-night studying, faux greenery like a monstera for low-maintenance botanicals, and a few sentimental items such as a pennant or rosette ribbon to personalize each bed.
  • Styling tip: give each girl a shelf or framed print above her bed to create ownership while keeping the overall palette unified.

Teenage Girl Bedroom Idea 2: Blushing Boho

Blushing Boho keeps the room light and soft with airy neutrals and blush tones, layered textures, and handmade or natural-feeling accents. This direction suits sisters who want a relaxed, cozy retreat with a feminine, organic vibe.

  • Paint and color: soft white walls with pale blush accents and warm natural wood tones for furniture.
  • Furnishings: washable rugs for easy care, spindle-style beds in black for a modern contrast, simple nightstands, and an open etagere or bookshelf for shared storage and display.
  • Textiles and decor: mix quilted bedding, textured throws, rattan pendant lighting, hanging planters, and botanical or horse-themed art for a gentle, whimsical touch.
  • Practical note: choose durable, washable textiles and stackable storage to keep the shared room tidy while maintaining a curated, layered look.

Teenage Girl Bedroom Idea 3: Japandi Cottage

Japandi Cottage combines the calm minimalism of Scandinavian and Japanese design with cozy cottage details. The result is a warm, curated space that emphasizes natural materials, soft shapes, and thoughtful function—great for sisters who prefer understated, timeless style.

  • Wall color: a muted green-gray for a serene backdrop, paired with warm wood tones and neutral textiles.
  • Furniture: spindle-style beds or simple platform beds, a leaning desk for compact study space, and a classic high-back chair for comfort and character.
  • Accents: rattan lamps, hanging planters, boucle or textured seating, and linear or nature-inspired artwork to add calm visual interest.
  • Organization tip: frame small collections, use identical picture frames for a cohesive gallery, and add woven baskets for easy, attractive clutter control.

We’re leaning toward one of these concepts for the Carney girls and have already adjusted details to reflect their personalities. I’m excited to watch the plan come together in the actual room and share progress along the way.

If you enjoy seeing the behind-the-scenes process, follow along on social channels for short updates and photos as we install the beds, layer textiles, and add personal touches for each girl.
