Oh, Christmas — with its warm twinkling lights that make the house glow at night, its playlist that turns every car ride into a sing-along, and its fireside snuggles that wash the day away. I love it all.
There’s a reason people centuries ago lit candles and brewed cocoa as soon as the days turned short and cold. It simply makes the season feel like home.

This year we brought back a holiday tradition we love: a hot cocoa bar stocked with every topping you could imagine. It’s a simple way to make December evenings feel extra cozy and festive.

My waistline might protest by the end of the month, but my sweet tooth could not be happier.
For as many nights as possible we push the furniture together, build a fort, and camp out in the living room for Christmas movie marathons — The Grinch, Rudolph, Elf, A Christmas Story, or whatever holiday favorite calls our name that night. Footie pajamas are optional, but hot chocolate is mandatory.
When the cocoa bar appears, the coffee station gets a seasonal swap for something chocolatey and comforting. The only thing that might compete with coffee at this time of year is a steaming mug of spiced, salted, or caramel hot chocolate.

This season I found Hocking jars and little glass shakers at the dollar store that were perfect for holding toppings. They keep everything visible and within reach all month: toffee, marshmallows, candy cane stirrers, caramels, cinnamon, sprinkles, flaky sea salt, and even chili powder for spicy chocolate. I wanted more mix-ins, but I ran out of jars — which was probably for the best.
I made antique-style printable labels, tied them on with twine, and loved the small, vintage touch they added. We’ll leave them up through our extended family’s Christmas Eve gathering to make the display feel both useful and special.

I put together a comprehensive printable label set with every cocoa-bar topping I could think of. If you plan to set up your own hot cocoa bar, a printable collection of labels makes the whole experience look polished and helps guests find their favorites quickly.
If you’re already on my email list, you should have received the direct download and the password for the printable library. If not, you can subscribe to gain access to the printable library and download the full label set.

One afternoon, Olivia and I iced gingerbread cookies and hung them like garland across the plate rack — and ok, we may have sampled a few while decorating. The little handmade details add so much charm to the cocoa bar.

The cedar garland we used is faux but looks incredibly realistic — even up close it reads as fresh greenery unless you touch it. It fit the spot perfectly, despite my tendency to overestimate sizes when shopping online.

The silver pieces you see belonged to my grandmother, who passed away when I was twelve. I still miss her joyous laugh and the way she sang carols at the piano every morning and night. Displaying her silver during the holidays feels like a quiet way to remember her and the traditions she loved.

And frankly, the sparkle doesn’t hurt either.

Do you have holiday decorating traditions that feel essential in your home? Any cocoa toppings that make the whole drink 1,000% more magical? I’m team salted caramel cocoa with whipped cream and toffee bits — it’s my go-to.
