Confession: I buy furniture from thrift shops and then let it sit in the garage for months.
Robert finds it hilarious. (I do, too.) I’ll convince myself a piece is “too good to pass up,” promise “I’ll makeover it tomorrow,” and then get distracted by life. Sound familiar?
With our move approaching and a garage full of half-finished projects, I finally had to face the small coffee table that was supposed to be part of the playroom.

I decided it deserved a quick facelift for another Trash to Treasure Tuesday project.

Back in November, while we were finishing the playroom makeover, I realized we didn’t actually need a coffee table. The space already had a small play table and built-in desks, and I wanted Olivia to have plenty of room to run and play. By the time that decision hit me, a thrifted table was already in the garage—so it stayed.

Since I needed to clear out the garage before moving, I finally tackled the table. I gave it a couple of quick coats of Fusion Mineral Paint in the Mustard shade.
The color is exactly what it sounds like—rich, warm, and playful. It almost looks like mustard or even a dollop of Chick-fil-A sauce—deliciously bold and unexpectedly cheerful.

I kept the makeover simple—just paint. Fusion Mineral Paint is one of my go-to products because it’s low-prep and offers great coverage in one coat most of the time. No sanding, no primer, and no sealer needed for a quick, durable result.
The playroom has always been the place where I can experiment with color. While the rest of the house stays neutral and farmhouse-inspired, this room lets me take more risks. Mustard was a fun, unexpected choice that adds instant personality and energy to the space.
Isn’t it cute? Stepping away from neutral palettes every now and then keeps decorating fresh and fun.

As we began packing other rooms, I felt a little wistful about leaving this corner of the house. Painting the table felt like a small, happy goodbye to the playroom—though I’m excited our new home has a space that will be perfect for another playroom makeover.

Painting something cheerful in the midst of packing stress was exactly what I needed—a small project that instantly lifted my mood and felt productive.
I nicknamed the finished piece “the school bus.” Right after I photographed it, we included the table in our moving yard sale and it sold quickly. The makeover wasn’t about keeping the piece so much as clearing space and turning a thrift find into a quick, marketable before-and-after.
I’m grateful we left the playroom unpacked until the last minute. It’s been a calm, familiar place for Olivia to color, build with blocks, and play while Robert and I sort through the chaos of moving. Having that pocket of normalcy during a busy transition has been invaluable.

If you want the sources and details for the rest of the playroom makeover, you can find them at the end of the full playroom reveal post.
