Sea Island Coastal Home Tour: Inside a Lowcountry House

It’s almost unbelievable how different life felt just two weeks ago. We managed a brief family escape to Georgia right before everything changed, and we spent that weekend in a stunning Airbnb coastal house on Sea Island. The house felt like the perfect backdrop for slow mornings, long walks, and tiny adventures with the kids.

I have a lot of family in the Brunswick / Saint Simons area, and we try to visit at least once a year. This trip was one of those simple, restorative visits — time together, family dinners, and afternoons spent on the beach. There’s something grounding about salt air, the sound of surf, and the rhythm of a place you know well.

The house itself was a real treat. It had clearly been through a major renovation in the recent past — a thoughtful, dramatic flip that preserved coastal charm while updating the finishes to feel fresh and livable. I wish I had photos of what it looked like before; the contrast would have been striking.

There was a corner that immediately became my favorite reading spot — a quiet place for a book, a cup of coffee, and the drifting light of the morning. It felt designed for slow moments and small rituals.

The doorway views were something to linger over. Two little faces framed by open doors created a perfect coastal snapshot and reminded me why family stays are about the small, ordinary scenes that become memories.

The living areas combined comfortable seating with a light, coastal palette — linens, soft textures, and open sightlines that made the whole space feel airy and calm. It was easy to gather there for conversation, snacks, and naps with the children.

The kitchen made me momentarily ready to start renovating our own — bright, well-organized, and outfitted for easy family meals. It felt like the kind of kitchen that encourages everyone to drop in, help with snacks, and linger over a morning conversation.

The breakfast nook was a lovely detail: a window banquette that invites slow breakfasts, a little desk for notes or kids’ drawings, and a view that filled the space with natural light. It was one of those thoughtful design moments that blends function with charm.

And the dining room — a calm, gracious space for family meals. It felt both intimate and open, the kind of room where conversations stretch into the evening and desserts are passed around with ease.

Regan’s favorite spot was the sun room, a bright and cozy corner that quickly became a little retreat for reading, coloring, and watching the world go by. The room captured golden afternoon light in that way only coastal homes seem to manage.

One standout: the shower that felt practically like a small spa. Its scale and finishes felt luxurious compared to the size of our everyday master bathroom — a small indulgence that made the stay feel extra special.

Even though our time in the house was brief, it was filled with easy moments that felt important: seashell hunts on the shore, impromptu family photos, bedtime stories, and the simple pleasure of being together. Those small memories are what made the weekend memorable — more than the décor or the renovation, it was the faces and laughter that mattered most.

We’re now back at home in South Carolina, settled in for what looks like an extended stay here. I’m grateful for that small weekend of sunshine and family time — it gave us a peaceful pocket of normalcy and joy. Sending lots of love and hugs from our little corner of the coast.
