Some time ago I came across a charming DIY bobbin frame idea by Alisa at A Glass of Bovino and immediately wanted to adapt the look for the plain bezel on our Samsung Frame TV. I ordered supplies and then life got busy, but eventually I finally finished this quick and affordable upgrade.

If you’ve been staring at the standard Frame TV bezel and want a more classic, decorative look—think vintage bobbin molding—this project is a simple way to get that style without spending a lot on a custom bezel.

How to Make a Bobbin Frame for a Samsung Frame TV

This tutorial walks through an easy, budget-friendly method to transform a plain Samsung Frame TV bezel into a bobbin-style decorative frame. It’s suitable whether you already have a detachable bezel or are building a DIY TV frame from scratch.

The whole craft took about two hours and cost under $30 for supplies (not including the bezel itself). It works for multiple screen sizes and is very forgiving if you’re new to small craft glue-ups and spray painting.

Supplies

Disclosure: some items were purchased from common online retailers; adjust based on your local availability.

  • Plain Samsung Frame TV bezel or a DIY bezel built to fit your TV
  • 15mm split wood balls (these work well as the bobbin elements; I used just under 300 for a 55″ frame)
  • Construction adhesive (a strong, gap-filling construction adhesive is ideal)
  • Caulking gun to apply the construction adhesive
  • Disposable chopsticks or a small wooden stick for applying adhesive
  • Rags or paper towels for cleanup
  • Drop cloth to protect surfaces while painting
  • Spray primer formulated for wood or multi-surface use
  • Spray paint in your desired finish (I used Rustoleum Gold Bright Coat metallic for a realistic gold look)

Step 1 – Attach the Split Balls

Start with your clean, dry bezel laid flat on a protected work surface. The 15mm split wood balls match scale nicely for most TV bezels and give an authentic bobbin look.

Apply a small pea-sized amount of construction adhesive to the flat back of each split ball. Place the balls in a continuous row along the outer edge of the bezel so they touch each other with no gaps. Consistent spacing creates the classic beaded bobbin profile.

Work deliberately and remove any excess glue immediately with a rag or paper towel. If you don’t have construction adhesive, a strong wood glue or a hot glue gun can work, though hot glue may be more visible under a thin paint finish.

Tip: a disposable chopstick is a perfect applicator for placing a tiny, controlled amount of glue on each bead.

Let the adhesive cure fully—typically 24 hours—before moving on to priming and painting.

Step 2 – Prime and Paint

After the glue has dried and the beads feel secure, apply a light, even coat of spray primer. Primer improves adhesion and helps the final paint look uniform, especially when painting wood beads on a different-colored bezel.

When the primer is dry, spray two thin, even coats of your chosen paint. For a classic, upscale finish I used a metallic gold spray paint. Light coats delivered a smooth, factory-style appearance and helped avoid drips or pooled paint around the bead edges.

Experiment with different colors depending on your decor—matte black, antiqued bronze, muted brass, or painted white all work beautifully and change the overall look of the TV and the room.

That’s all there is to it—this is a fast and satisfying project with a charming result. The bobbin detail gives the Samsung Frame TV a custom, framed-art appearance without the expense of a high-end designer bezel.

To complement the updated bezel, I added clip-on rattan shades to my wall sconces above the mantel. The texture ties the look together and adds warmth to the group around the TV. These types of clip-on shades work on many sconce and chandelier styles.

Where to Find Unique Frame TV Bezels

Making your own bezel is cost-effective, but if you prefer to purchase a decorative bezels there are ready-made options in gold and ornate styles. Premium bezels can look beautiful but often come with a higher price tag.

Some popular finish styles to look for include Gatsby gold frames, ornate gold frames, Tuscan copper tones, and antique gold finishes. Choose a style that complements your room’s fixtures and color palette.
